Short Story - An Important Decision

I look her dead in the eyes.
"You will tell me right now what's going on," I shout at her, I need to know. .
Her phone vibrates, straight away she grabs it and leaps off her chair to go to the restroom. Sighing, I sit down and reach for the sugar, taking a spoonful I drop it into my coffee. I can't leave Kate. But what if I can't help her?.
With my cup I stand. Walking to the window I watch the empty road ahead. The café parking lot had been deserted long before we arrived. The misty air created a small fog around the town, the lights illuminate what in daylight would have been a busy place. I hear footsteps behind me. So I turn.
There she is, in front of me. Closer than before. Her sea green eyes piercing through me, as if staring right at my soul.
"We have to leave," she whispers, "We have to leave now.".
I am taken aback by this. Questions race through my head, but I can not process which to ask first. So I simply say;.
             "Why?".
"What do you mean why?" she says a bit louder, stepping back to look me up and down. "I believe well and clear that you wanted to come with me. You don't have to, but you damn right should.".
My eyes widen. Have I been drawn into what might be a life or death situation? I don't know what to say.
"So are you just going to stand there, or are you going to say something?" she asks, agitated. She was still as charming as before.
I put my cup down on the nearest table and turn back to face her. She's awaiting my response but I'm not prepared to answer her. I need to know what I'm getting into. I clear my throat.
"What's going to happen to me if I come with you?" I ask.
"Nothing," she takes a breath, "if you stick with me that is, hopefully. It's if you don't come with me that it will happen.".
"What will happen?" my voice barely a whisper.
